New feature alert: Introducing Yarno compliance campaigns

Compliance training is more important than ever, but it has a reputation problem. For most organisations, it means a module, a quiz, a completion certificate, and not much else. It ticks a box, but it rarely tells you whether anyone actually understood what they just did.

That's the gap we built our new compliance campaigns feature to close. Not a new take on the same tick-and-flick model, but compliance training that works the way we think learning should: built around genuine understanding, not just clicking through to the end.

Customer signals

Over the past few years, we've heard increasingly from our customers, and from others in the compliance space, that they wanted Yarno-style training paired with the structured reporting needed to meet their compliance requirements.

The companies we work with care about learner engagement and want to see real learner progress, but reporting requirements have sometimes forced them to fall back on legacy systems to meet those needs. We sat down for interviews with customers and non-customers alike to understand what a compliance tool actually needs to get right, and what was missing from the tools already out there.

Signs of change in the regulatory landscape

From 1 July 2026, WHS codes of practice became enforceable across Australia. Regulators now expect evidence that employees understood their obligations, not just that they completed the training.

It's a shift that lines up with something we've believed at Yarno for a while: proving someone sat through training was never the same as proving they understood it. This is a trend we expect could soon be replicated across the broader regulatory landscape, as regulators re-focus on why the training is required to begin with: improving outcomes in the relevant subject areas.

Introducing compliance campaigns

Compliance campaigns are a new campaign type, sitting alongside our embed and burst campaigns. Where embeds and bursts are about building capability over time, compliance campaigns are about proving your learners have met a required standard, and giving you a clear record of it.

There are 3 key benefits of Yarno’s compliance campaigns:

  1. Easy, live reporting: new dashboards and drilldowns have been built to quickly surface exactly what you need to know to check in on your compliance status - who’s compliant, who’s due soon, who’s overdue.
  2. Automated renewals: learners are automatically notified when it’s time to complete the compliance training again, and this is reflected in your reporting.
  3. Engaging content and format: we’re bringing the engaging Yarno method to compliance, with flash facts to set learners up for success, opportunities for video and scenario questions, immediate feedback for learners and engaging explanations, all helping to engage learners even on drier subject matters.

Compliance campaigns in practice

  • Pass mark: Learners need to hit a defined score to be marked compliant. If they don't get there the first time, they can retry until they do, so the goal stays "everyone understands this," not "everyone got one attempt."
  • No expiry: The campaign itself doesn't run to a fixed start and end date; it stays open until you decide to close it. Learners still have their own personal deadlines: new learners get a set window to complete it when they first join (say, two weeks from joining), and once they're compliant, their next deadline is set by however long their compliance period runs.
  • Compliance period: Decide how long a learner stays compliant once they've passed - 6 months, a year, 2 years, whatever suits the topic. As that period approaches its end, Yarno automatically sends them an invite to requalify, so keeping your whole team current doesn't rely on someone remembering to chase it manually.
  • Learner status, at a glance: See who's compliant right now, with an early flag for anyone due soon so you can chase renewals before they lapse, and a clear callout for anyone who's gone overdue. No digging through spreadsheets to work out where things stand.
  • No leaderboard: This one's deliberate. Compliance is about everyone meeting the standard, not about who got there fastest, so we've left some of the competitive elements from other Yarno campaigns out. It's a different job to embed and burst, and the experience reflects that.

Evidence-ready reporting

If you've ever needed to answer "who's compliant, who's due soon, and who's overdue" for an auditor, a regulator, or your own peace of mind, this is built for exactly that. The reporting is designed to answer this, instantly, for every learner, at any point in time, right down to individual learner drilldowns if you need to follow up with someone directly.

Still the Yarno way

If you read Compliance, the Yarno way, you'll know this isn't a bolt-on tick-box tool. Compliance campaigns use the same question-based, active recall approach that underpins everything else on Yarno. We've just added the pass marks, timeframes, and reporting that mandatory training needs on top.

Quickfire questions

Do I need to move all my compliance training over straight away? No. Compliance campaigns can run alongside your existing embed and burst campaigns. You can also combine the campaign types to reinforce learning - for example introducing a topic through a burst, then formally assessing it through a compliance campaign.

What happens if a learner doesn't pass? They can retry the campaign until they meet the pass mark.

Can I choose my own compliance period, like 12 months? Yes. You set the period that suits your requirements, and Yarno handles the re-invitations as it approaches expiry.

Will compliance campaigns replace embeds and bursts? No. They solve a different problem. Use embed and burst to build capability and engagement, compliance to evidence that a required standard has been met.
