What is an in-line image?

In a Yarno explanation, you will often encounter either an image or a video in addition to the text on the screen. These will appear as either funny memes/gifs or as instructional information that illustrates the information presented in the text. These are referred to as in-line images and videos.

How to format in-line images

If you want to include an image in your explanation, use the following formula to ensure it is correctly formatted and to ensure it will appear as you intended:

1.You must first ‘Attach’ the image to the Trello card before you can insert it into the explanation. If you have not already saved the image locally (to your computer), do that first and then click on ‘Attachment’ from the right-hand menu in Trello (see below).

2.From there you can select ‘Computer’ from the drop-down menu, and select the image you wish to attach (see below).

3. Once that is attached, you will see it listed in the ‘Attachments’ section directly beneath the answer fields (see below). From there, you will need to right click on the image and select ‘Copy Link’.

4. Now it’s time to insert your image into the text. Find the part of the explanation where you would like to include it, and paste the following formula into the text (swapping out the url for the new one you have just copied):

If you click out of the explanation field, your image should now appear in-line as expected.

Tips to make your in-line image or video stand out

If you want to maximise the impact of your in-line image or video, consider some of the following tips:

  • Keep it in context! Ensure that your image or video is relevant to the information in the text.
  • Consider where you are placing the in-line image or video and how that impacts the presentation.
  • Is it in line with the tone of the explanation? If your explanation is casual or informal, use a funny gif or meme to keep the tone consistent. Likewise, if your explanation is more formal in tone, use an image or video that is more in line with that style.
