Everything you need in the palm of your hand

We've got eagle eyes and we've used them to pore over the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth). We extracted all the key information and transformed all that tough legal language into simple, plain English. Our course is delivered in the form of a daily quiz. It takes just a few minutes and can be done anytime, anywhere, so everyone can understand and comply. The law doesn't have to be so tricky, after all.

Yarno is a microlearning app that uses learning science, spaced repetition and gamification to improve employee performance. Learn more about us here.

Am I affected by the Australian Consumer Law?

Do you own or work for a business that supplies goods or services to consumers? If so, in every transaction which you or anyone else within your business conducts, the Australian Consumer Law implies statutory rights that cannot be contracted out of.

What does the ACL mean for my business?

Consumers are entitled to the rights conferred by the ACL. If a consumer transaction violates any of these rights, your business is liable to repair or compensate the consumer for that breach. It's essential that both you and all staff within your business know:

  • What rights and obligations are imposed by the ACL
  • What constitutes a breach of the ACL
  • How to remedy a breach
  • The consequences of failing to remedy a breach

What rights and obligations are imposed by the ACL?

Obligations imposed by the ACL include:

  • If a salesperson describes goods to a consumer, the goods supplied must correspond to that description.
  • Goods supplied must be of acceptable quality.
  • If a sample or demonstration of a particular good is presented, the supplied goods must be of the same quality as the sample or demonstration.
  • Consumers have the right to repairs and spare parts.

These are only a fraction of the rights and obligations conferred. To learn more about the consumer guarantees contained in the ACL, download our Guarantees Guide.

What do I need to do?

As a legal document, the requirements of the ACL are technical and precise. It's vital that you and your staff are equipped with ACL expertise in all consumer transactions.
